Russian Pollock – a Fishery Improvement Project

The Russian Pollock has been called the most important groundfish species in the world because it is the world’s largest source of edible fish.

Living in the West Bering Sea and the Sea of Okhotsk, the Russian Pollock’s numbers have been steadily declining in the face of over-fishing. That’s why the Russian Pollock Fishery Improvement Project (FIP) was started by the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership in 2009.

The goal is to not only meet the target sustainable levels required for Marine Stewardship Council approval, but to exceed them. Top industry experts and scientists have been working together on this challenge.

We are proud to be working on this project to preserve and grow the population of this vitally important fish.
